MOORES Energy boosts education in Lagos with new award for public schools

The management of oil and gas company, MOORES Energy, has taken up the challenge to help improve education in Lagos state and, by extension, Nigeria.

During a colourful event on Monday, to launch MOORE Gas Limited in the Ikorodu axis and also unveil former African Footballer of Year Victor Ikpeba as a brand ambassador, Mrs Bola Tom Jones, CEO, MOORES Energy reeled out the latest initiative from the company.

The new initiative seeks to reward outstanding students and teachers in public schools in the establishment’s host community of Ikorodu.

Tagged MAPS, which simply means MOORES Awards for Public Schools, Mrs Tom Jones disclosed that the Corporate Social Responsibility project is in collaboration with the Florence Olabisi Segun Initiative (FOSI)

“Driven by our deep conviction about the pivotal role of education as a catalyst to the much-desired transformation of our society, we at MOORES Energy have decided to invest a decent percentage of our resources on this worthy cause” the MOORES Energy CEO declared.

“The MOORES Award is meant to contribute towards improving the standard of education in Ikorodu and by extension, Lagos State. To raise the hopes and aspirations of the less privileged students in our secondary schools.

“To rekindle hope in the female child.We want them to know that there is a future for those who truly desire to break the glass ceiling like I was blessed with the opportunity of doing, to the glory of God, and with the support of my late parents. We want to tell the world that indeed when you educate a girl child, you educate the community and the nation.” She added. 

While there are plans to motivate the students, Mrs Tom Jones assured the MAPS project will also go further to appreciate and recognise the selfless efforts of teachers without whom education becomes an impossible aspiration.

Former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba, who was part of the dignitaries at Monday’s event, commended MOORES Energy and its CEO, Mrs Bola Tom Jones, for their noble and brave gesture to help improve the fortunes of the next generation with their involvement in education

“She has really done well. There is no better way to bring up our children than to make sure they have the best education. This award will go a long way to motivate the children.” Ikpeba told reporters. 

“Even though I have a busy schedule, I made it a duty to be here because I am delighted to be part of a great thing like this, the former African Footballer of the Year added.

As revealed, the MAPS awards are particularly in memory of Mr. Adedapo Ajayi Segun, a loving father who together with his wife Reverend Mrs. Florence Olabisi Segun placed a huge premium on education and ensured that they laid a strong foundation for their children.

It is also in recognition of the sacrifice of every mother who toils so hard to lay the foundation for the success of her children.
