JAMB Admits Errors in 2025 UTME; Nearly 380,000 Candidates to Retake Exams

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted to errors in the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), prompting a rescheduling of exams for candidates across 157 centres nationwide.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, following a comprehensive review initiated after widespread complaints of unusually low scores from candidates who previously demonstrated strong academic performance.
Oloyede apologised for the discrepancies, taking full responsibility on behalf of the board.
“So, I appeal to the candidates and those affected by the error of our system to accept this explanation as the truth of the matter without embellishment, PLEASE. I apologise and take full responsibility, not just in words,” he said.
The affected candidates—estimated to be nearly 380,000—will be notified and scheduled to retake the examination starting Friday, May 16, 2025.

The decision comes amid concerns over the overall performance of the 2025 UTME. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam, more than 1.5 million scored below 200 out of a possible 400, triggering a high-level review of the results by stakeholders and education authorities.
The board revealed that the errors occurred in 157 of the 882 accredited UTME centres, including some located in Lagos and South-East states such as Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Anambra.
JAMB has pledged to ensure fairness to all candidates and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examination process going forward.
Candidates affected are advised to check their emails, SMS, and the official JAMB website for their updated examination details.
