It will be all newcomers’ final at the second edition of the All Stars Unity Cup with Evergreen All Stars taking on Araromi FC as they both set to replace last year’s winner, Liberty Stars.
To get to the final, Evergreen who are making their debut had a difficult semifinal, as they had to face the lottery of penalties, defeating Linda Sweet Athletics FC 2-0 after the regulation time ended goalless.
It was, however, a straightforward victory for Araromi, beating Samba FC 2-0 to get to their first final.
The tournament started with 16 teams competing in four groups in a tournament that started August 10 with the final taking place at the Agidingbi Grammar School field, on Saturday, August 31, by 9am.
According to the President of Liberty Stars, the organisers of the tournament, Ikenna Anene, said it has been weekends of entertainment and networking between all the teams that participated.
“It has been a great time together with the whole teams coming together as one,” he said.
“You can testify to the quality of matches played with the defending champion not making it through.
“We are expecting some top dignitaries on the final day, especially some of Nigeria’s ex-internationals.”
Anene also appreciated the support from DTO Industries, the major sponsor of the tournament and others like Star Plus Battery, The Place, Zion Safety, Paulvic Inter-Link Limited, Grej Table Water, Flash Change, LifeWorth HMO, Crestpart Nigeria Ltd, Dee-Dove, Jeffrock Hotels and others who have been supporting the championship.
