Egypt relieves coach of duty after leaving AFCON

The Egyptian Football Association(EFA) has parted ways with Portuguese coach, Rui Vitoria, after their embarrassing last 16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) last Sunday.
EFA announced his sacking on Sunday with the appointment of former coach Mohamed Youssef on an interim basis.
The record seven-time African champions lost 8-7 on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo following a 1-1 draw after extra time in San Pedro.
“Thanks to Roy Vitoria and his assistant staff,” EFA said on Sunday.
“The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association, following its meeting today to discuss the technical and administrative reports regarding the national team’s participation in the 2023 African Nations Championship in Ivory Coast, decided to thank the Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team, and his assistant staff, while studying the biographies of foreign coaches and presenting them at the next meeting.
“The Council decided to approve the appointment of Mohamed Youssef as general coach of the first Egyptian national team until a foreign technical director is selected and the rest of the staff is formed.”
