FIBA Women’s Afrobasket: D’Tigress qualify for final in style with big win over hosts, Rwanda

The Nigeria national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress have qualified for the final of the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
D’Tigress sealed their place in Sunday’s final in style; beating hosts, Rwanda 79-48 to inch closer to winning an astonishing fourth consecutive African title.
After a nervy quarter-final victory over Mozambique, D’Tigress came off the blocks in the semi-final contest against Rwanda; winning the first quarter 22-6.
D’Tigress maintained the tempo in the second quarter 22-12 as the Nigerian Ladies established a 44-18 lead halfway into the semi-final contest.
However, riding on the massive home support at the BK Arena, the Rwanda Ladies attempted to claw their way back to the game; winning the third quarter 17-14.
Coach Wakama ensured D’Tigress finished strongly; winning the last quarter 21-13 to breeze to the 79-48 victory that has taken them into the final and closer to a fourth consecutive title.
For the umpteenth time, Amy Okonkwo was the star performer for D’Tigress as she contributed a massive 23 points with 10 rebounds.
Later tonight, Senegal and Mali will be slugging it out for a chance to face Nigeria in Sunday’s final.
