Governor Okpebholo reaffirms commitment to security in Edo State

Governor Monday Okpebholo has reassured the people of Edo State of his administration’s commitment to tackling security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents.
In response to recent criticisms from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governor emphasised that his government is taking concrete steps to address insecurity in the state.
In a press statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bugie Okhuemoi, Governor Okpebholo dismissed the PDP’s allegations, attributing the current security concerns to what he described as years of mismanagement under the previous administration.
He argued that the former PDP-led government failed to make meaningful investments in security, leading to the challenges now being confronted by his administration.
“In just 100 days, we have made significant strides in improving security, surpassing what the PDP did in eight years,” the governor stated.
Highlighting some of the measures taken to enhance security in the state, Governor Okpebholo outlined key initiatives, including:
Procurement of over 60 brand-new Hilux operational vehicles equipped with modern communication gadgets to aid security agencies.
Deployment of more than 300 motorcycles to improve security operations in remote areas.
Suppression of secret cult clashes that had previously plagued the state.
Reorganization and empowerment of the Edo State Security Network to strengthen community policing.
Enhanced collaboration between security agencies for improved crime-fighting coordination.
Provision of material and financial support to security agencies.
Governor Okpebholo assured Edo residents that his administration remains committed to building a proactive and well-equipped security framework to tackle evolving threats. He stressed that his government is focused on delivering tangible results rather than engaging in political rhetoric.
While expressing condolences to the families of victims affected by recent security incidents, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to combat crime and ensure that Edo State remains safe for all its residents.
“The safety of Edo people is our top priority. Criminals will find no haven in this state under my administration,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo called on the people of Edo to support his administration’s efforts and remain vigilant, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.
