The controversy surrounding a recent Ibom Air flight has taken a new turn after a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, broke her silence, narrating in detail how she was allegedly assaulted, stripped, and humiliated by airline staff in Lagos.

In a viral incident that has sparked outrage on social media, Emmanson claimed that sheT was physically attacked by a flight attendant identified as Juliana, before being dragged out of the aircraft by airport security staff, leaving her exposed in public view. She said the ordeal has left her traumatized and struggling to cope with the humiliation.

Speaking on her experience, Emmanson said:

“They recorded me and put it on the social media. I am traumatized, I am ashamed to go out because everyone has seen my body. They even used it as WhatsApp sticker. I am into real estate, I don’t know how to talk to customers knowing that my body is out there. How will I get married? My unborn kids will see this. My reputation is gone. I am not a trouble maker. I am still rounding up my treatment from the hospital.”

Recounting the events of August 10, 2025, she explained that the altercation began when she was asked to switch off her phones before takeoff.

“On August 10 2025, I boarded a flight from Uyo to Lagos. The hostess, Juliana said we should switch off our phones. I was trying to put one of my phones on flight mode. She came to me and said I must put it off. I was with two phones and I explained to her that the second phone was faulty. A man helped me to switch off one of the phones while I struggled with the faulty one. I told her to help me out but she said no so I begged the man again to switch it off and he did. As Juliana was leaving, she said ‘YOU WILL SEE’. I didn’t count it as anything.”

According to Emmanson, the situation escalated upon arrival in Lagos.

“When we landed in Lagos, I had to use the toilet in the plane. When I came out, I quickly went to pack my luggage and was about to get out of the plane when Juliana stopped me for no reason. I told her to let me pass but she ignored so I started recording on my phone. After a while I stopped the recording and she saw that I recorded her so she pushed me inside the plane, dragged my frontal, my clothes, my jewelry and broke my phones.”

She alleged that her attempt to defend herself triggered further confrontation.

“The pain of the frontal she pulled got me mad, I poked my fingers at her face and I asked her why she did that. She then started calling me a prost!tute. The other airport staff came, surrounded me and dragged me out of the plane. While they were dragging me, she pulled my clothes which was pinned on me and my body was out there and all of them were recording me. I tried to cover my body. I never expected that kind of treatment.”

The video of the incident has circulated widely online, drawing condemnation from Nigerians who questioned the professionalism of airline staff and airport authorities in handling the matter. Many have also raised concerns about privacy violations, as the footage of Emmanson’s ordeal continues to circulate without her consent.

As of press time, Ibom Air has yet to issue an official statement addressing Emmanson’s allegations, though aviation industry watchers argue that the matter raises critical questions about passenger rights, staff conduct, and airport security protocols in Nigeria.

Founded in 2019 by the Akwa Ibom State Government, Ibom Air has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing airlines, with a focus on punctuality and service delivery. However, this controversy threatens to dent its public image unless addressed with transparency and accountability.

For Emmanson, the scars go beyond physical injury. “I am traumatized, I am ashamed to go out,” she repeated, adding that her dignity, career, and future prospects have been damaged by an incident she describes as “unjust and dehumanizing.”
