Lagos Women Run embark on free medical care for makoko Community

Lagos Women Run Celebrate International Women Day at Makoko Community Market with free medical care for both men and women in the Community.
The programme which lasted from 9am to 5pm still saw people trouping out in large numbers begging to be attended to after 5pm
The free medical care include, BP test, blood test and all round body tests Those tested were all given drugs on the spot. Event co-ordinator Ms Tayo Popoola said the idea of taking a medical team to Makoko on the International Women Day, was to give the people of the community a sense of belonging.
According to Popoola, some people suggested that the free medical tests be conducted in to Ikoyi, Surulere or Lagos Island, but she kicked against the idea, stressing that remote areas like the makoko Community and it’s likes are best suited for such programmes than any other place.
She said residents of Ikoyi, Lekki, Banana Island and even some part of Surulere are well to do and can afford medical treatment for themselves in terms of illness hence the aim of the programme would have been defeated conducted there .

She commended Lagos Women for coming out in large numbers to Celebrate the International Women Day which happens once every year.
She described Saturday’s outing as being significant to the Lagos Women Run initiators as it compliments their on-going women empowerment programme which is one of the main objectives of the annual Lagos Women Run outside skill acquisition.
Ms Popoola used the opportunity provided to thank all those who took out time to join in celebrating the International Women Day and advised others who never saw the need to partake in such programmes to try and be participating in such events for their health sake .
Over 500 women drawn from Makoko and it’s environs, took part in the one day exercise.
