LASG Shuts Down Cubana Chief Priest’s Lekki Restaurant for Environmental Violations

The Lagos State Government has sealed DONALD, a high-profile restaurant operated by nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, over serious environmental infractions.

The enforcement action followed an incident of illegal waste disposal traced to the establishment located on Road 14, Lekki Phase 1.

According to a statement released by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the clampdown was triggered by a tip-off from the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA).

In the early hours of Saturday, May 18, 2025, a white Ford van bearing Abuja registration number GWA 136E was caught dumping waste indiscriminately along Durosimi-Etti Street.

The vehicle was linked to DONALD restaurant.LERA’s Chief Security Officer apprehended the suspects at the scene. Reports indicate the individuals attempted to bribe the security team with ₦100,000, an offer that was promptly rejected.

The suspects were detained at the LERA Secretariat before being handed over to LAWMA’s Monitoring and Compliance team.In response, LAWMA, under the directive of Managing Director Mr. NR Gbadegenshi, sealed the premises of DONALD restaurant for violating the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017. The Authority cited gross environmental misconduct and failure to register with a designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operator among the violations.”This enforcement action is part of a broader crackdown on commercial entities operating outside regulatory guidelines,” LAWMA stated. “Illegal dumping during off-peak hours has become a disturbing trend in Lekki Phase 1, and we are committed to reversing it.”LAWMA commended LERA for its vigilance and principled handling of the situation, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in environmental enforcement.

The arrested suspects will be prosecuted, and LAWMA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations.

The agency urged all businesses and residents to comply with established waste management protocols, stressing that maintaining a clean and livable Lagos is a collective duty.
