Nollywood actress, model, and body positivity advocate Monalisa Stephen has passed away at the age of 32.
The actress, known for her roles in *Mami Wata* (2023) and *Breaded Life* (2021)—died on Tuesday, May 13, in Lagos, as confirmed by her immediate younger sister.
News of her death was made public on Wednesday by Seun Oloketuyi, Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), who shared the sad development on Instagram.
“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” Mr. Oloketuyi wrote.

Stephen, widely recognised for embracing her plus-size identity and inspiring others to love their bodies, had built a strong presence as both an actress and a social media influencer. She frequently used her platforms to speak out against body shaming and to promote self-confidence, especially among women.
Her final Instagram post, shared on April 29, featured her dancing to Nigerian pop star Davido’s song “10 Kilo.” In the caption, she dedicated the post to “all the confident women” she admired—echoing a theme consistent with her lifelong message of self-love and empowerment.
Monalisa’s death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow actors, and admirers across social media, many of whom have praised her for her courage, advocacy, and unique voice in the entertainment industry.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
