Dr. Vincent Okumagba has lauded the appointment of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, as the new head of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B).

Okumagba, who is the Interim President of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Group (NFSSG), has taken a significant step forward for football in the sub-region.

Gusau’s elevation to the WAFU B presidency follows the resignation of Ghana’s Kurt Okraku, who stepped down to focus on his expanded duties on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Council.

The decision to hand over leadership to Gusau received strong backing from member associations, signalling a unified push for stability and progress within the region.

“Alhaji Gusau’s wealth of experience and steady leadership style make him the right man to take WAFU B to new heights,” Dr. Okumagba, who also doubles as Vice President of the African Football Supporters Association, told reporters.

“His track record at the NFF and previous administrative roles has shown that he understands both the grassroots and elite levels of the game. This appointment will boost regional cooperation and ignite new energy in West African football development,” he added.

Under Gusau’s stewardship, stakeholders are optimistic that the region will experience enhanced collaboration and more impactful developmental initiatives.

Gusau, who was elected the 40th President of the NFF during its 78th Elective Congress, brings a strong administrative background to the position.

He previously led the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Zamfara State Football Association and has served on various CAF committees, including the influential Youth Organising Committee.

Gusau’s dual role now positions Nigeria at the center of West African football diplomacy and infrastructure planning, with expectations high for his tenure to foster unity and elevate competitive standards across the region.
