US Legislator Proposes Bill To Allow Third Term For Trump

Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has introduced a bill aimed at amending the US Constitution to allow former President Donald Trump to run for a third term in office.
Ogles submitted the resolution on Thursday, arguing that Trump is uniquely capable of addressing the nation’s challenges and restoring its global standing. “He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness. He must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” Ogles stated.
Under the 22nd Amendment, no individual may be elected president more than twice.
Ogles added, “We must provide Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration.”
Trump, who previously dismissed the idea of running for a third term, joked about the possibility after winning the 2024 election, saying, “Unless you say, ‘he’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”
Ogles also praised Trump’s executive orders during his second term, citing actions on border security, energy production, gender identity policies and the withdrawal from the World Health Organization.
The 22nd Amendment, which limits presidential terms, was ratified in 1951 following Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four terms in office. Roosevelt’s extended tenure, which lasted from 1933 to 1945, prompted concerns about excessive executive power, aligning with George Washington’s precedent of serving only two terms.
Although Republicans currently hold a slim majority in the House of Representatives, the proposed amendment would require significant bipartisan support and ratification by three-fourths of the states to become law.
