LaLiga: Yvan Neyou Believes Leganés Can Still Beat Relegation

By Tunde Eludini
Cameroonian midfielder Yvan Neyou says he still believes CD Leganés can avoid relegation from LaLiga, even with just two games left in the season.
In an interview session arranged by LaLiga, Neyou spoke openly about his love for Spanish football, his loyalty to Leganés, and the tough situation the team is currently in.
Leganés are now four points away from safety after a heavy 3-0 loss to Villarreal.
With only two games to play, the odds are against them. But Neyou says the team is not giving up. “I’m not sure what the problem is—it’s hard to say,” Neyou said. “If I knew, I’d try to fix it quickly. But what matters now is winning our matches. In some games, we should have gotten more points. I believe in the team. If we give everything on the pitch, we can stay up.”
Leader On and Off the Field
Neyou has become a key player for Leganés, not only with his performances but also as a leader in the locker room.
He’s been especially important in helping younger players, including fellow African teammate Seydouba Cissé.
“We knew from the start that this season would be a fight,” he said. “Now we have to show character and finish strong.”
Leganés’ next match is against Real Valladolid, a must-win if they want to have any chance of staying in LaLiga.
At the same time, they’ll be hoping that rivals like RCD Espanyol drop points.
Remembering Kenneth Omeruo
During the interview, Neyou also mentioned his former teammate Kenneth Omeruo, who has since returned to Turkey to play for Kasimpasa.
Neyou praised the Nigerian defender and suggested he still has the quality to play at a high level.
“He’s a great player. I learned a lot from him,” Neyou said.Omeruo’s departure was a big loss for Leganés, but his influence is still felt by those who played alongside him.
Final Push
Leganés’ survival hopes are hanging by a thread. They need to win both of their remaining games and hope other results go their way. It’s a tough task—but not impossible. With Neyou calling for unity and full effort from the team, fans still have a reason to hope.
His positive mindset and calm leadership could be key as Leganés head into their final games.
“I believe in this team,” Neyou said again. “We just have to give everything and fight until the end.”
