Ahmed Musa returns to NPFL with a bang…hits brace to lift Pillars

Former Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa, on Sunday returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League with a bang, scoring a brace in Kano Pillars’ 2-0 defeat of Sunshine Stars in Katsina, the adopted home ground of Pillars.
The one-time NPFL highest goal scorer didn’t take time to re-introduce himself to the league, scoring the first of his brace as early as the second minute of the game.
Musa put the Sai Masu Gida ahead with a beautiful outside of the box shot from Mustapha Umar’s assist with the first half ending with his solitary goal.
With just six minutes into the second half, Musa was on target again to complete his brace in the 51st minute of the game and what would have been a hattrick for the former Leicester City striker was foiled by a Sunshine Stars defender, Ogechukwu Ogbu, who stopped the striker’s goal bound shot.
While Ogbu was given a red, Musa’s spot kick hit the goal post as he failed to record a hattrick in his return for the third time to the league.
Two clubs recorded their first victory of the season while also ending the unbeaten run of two others in some of the matches played on Sunday.
Michael Ogu’s double for Heartland secured coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s first win of the season at the expense of Niger Tornadoes who are tasting defeat for the first time this campaign, same as Kwara United who ended Remo Stars’ flawless season with a 1-0 win in Ilorin.
