Argentina win penalty shootout, secures third World Cup

Argentina emerged victors of the Qatar 2022 World Cup after the finals went into a penalty shootout where they defeated France 4-2 for the third time on Sunday,December 18th.
Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentinian national club scored twice as against France striker Kylian Mbappe who scored a hat-trick as a thrilling World Cup final finished in a 3-3 draw after extra time at the Lusail Stadium.
35-year-old Messi scored the first goal and the Argentinian team maintained the momentum as the first half ended 2-0. Angel Di Maria scored the second goal for Argentina.
Mbappe, who plays with Messi in Paris Saint-Germain, equalised the gap in the second half and went on to create history as the second man to score an hat-trick in the World Cup. He scored two penalties which helped France remain in the game and advance into the penalty shootouts.
During halftime, Argentina still led the match 3-2 until Mbappe scored another penalty, securing his hat-trick and also the position of the highest goal scorer in the entire tournament.
He started the shootout and opened the floor for France. Kinglsey Coman’s spot-kick was saved by Emiliano Martinez and Aurelien Tchoumeni fired wide.
Messi, Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes all converted, leaving Gonzalo Montiel to send Hugo Lloris the wrong way and secure his country’s third World Cup.
