EFCC Arrests Taraba Ex-Governor Darius Ishaku Over Alleged N27Billion Fraud

Former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of N27 billion fraud. Sources within the commission confirmed that Ishaku was still in detention on Friday evening, with at least 15-count charges filed against him. The former governor is expected to be arraigned in court soon as evidence has been compiled against him.
Ishaku, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, served as governor of Taraba State from May 2015 to May 2023. In May 2021, three officials who served under his government were also arrested for their alleged involvement in a N21 billion scam.
These officials included a permanent secretary, a Director of Finance and Account, and a cashier in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. It is reported that funds were withdrawn from the stateโs accounts through cheques in tranches of at least N10 million each during Ishakuโs tenure.
