Lagos APC Urges Opposition to Respect LG Poll Results, Dismisses Allegations of Irregularities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has called on opposition parties to stop making what it described as baseless allegations aimed at discrediting last Saturday’s local government elections.
This appeal was made on Wednesday in Lagos by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, in response to opposition parties who have demanded a cancellation of the polls, citing alleged irregularities.
“The Lagos State APC has noted with concern the baseless and ill-advised efforts by certain opposition parties to discredit the recently concluded local government elections,” Oladejo said in a statement.
“These attempts, marked by misinformation, sensationalism and outright falsehoods, are not only a disservice to the democratic process but also an insult to the people of Lagos who participated in a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.”
He stressed that the elections were conducted according to legal and procedural standards, under the supervision of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and monitored by civil society groups and other stakeholders.
“It is important to emphasise that the elections were conducted in full compliance with all legal and procedural requirements, under the supervision of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and with the active participation of civil society observers and relevant stakeholders.”
According to the APC spokesperson, the results reflect the popular will of Lagos residents and the trust they continue to place in the ruling party.
“The outcome of the elections reflects the will of the people and affirms their continued confidence in the ruling party’s track record of performance and service delivery,” he said.
Oladejo dismissed the opposition’s allegations of election malpractice as unsubstantiated and politically motivated.
“The party categorically reject the unsubstantiated claims of electoral malpractice being peddled by the opposition, whose actions seem driven more by desperation than by a commitment to democratic ideals.”
He also accused opposition actors of prioritizing drama over engaging with the public in a constructive way.
“Residents will not be misled by political actors who resort to theatrics instead of engaging meaningfully with the electorate,” he added.
“The people of Lagos have spoken through the ballot, and their voice must be respected. We urge the opposition to act responsibly and channel any grievances through the proper legal channels rather than resorting to public smear campaigns aimed at undermining our democratic institutions.”
Oladejo reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to good governance and the rule of law.
“The ruling party remained committed to strengthening democracy, upholding the rule of law, and delivering on the mandate freely given by the people,” he said.
He concluded with a call for unity and collective focus on the state’s development.
“We call on all stakeholders to put the interests of Lagos above partisan politics and work together for the continued progress and stability of our state.”
Arise Africa News reports that the APC secured all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions in the local government elections held across Lagos on Saturday.
