Osimhen hits brace in win over Fenerbahce… as Galatasaray seal Turkish Cup semifinal spot

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored a brace for Galatasaray to help them claim an important 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Ulker Stadium Sukru Saracoglu on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
After suffering their first domestic loss of the season at Besiktas last weekend, Galatasaray returned to action on Wednesday as they locked horns with Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce in the quarterfinal of the Turkish Cup.
Nigerian hitman Osimhen has been in fine form for the Lions this season, and he kept his place in the starting eleven.
As expected, the game was explosive from the start, with both teams eager to go for it. However, it was Galatasaray who broke the deadlock after 10 minutes.
Osimhen’s connection with Baris Alper Yilmaz yielded fruits for the umpteenth time this season, as Yilmaz got on the end of a long pass and knocked the ball down for Osimhen, who used his first touch to push the ball into the box and struck a wicked shot that blazed past the keeper and nestled in the net.
Then 17 minutes later, Osimhen scored again from the penalty spot after Fenerbahce conceded a penalty.
Galatasaray played well in the first half, but Fenerbahce dug deep to pull one back just before the break, courtesy of Sebastian Szymanski.
The second half was action-filled, but neither of the teams was able to score. Osimhen put himself about, but his first half brace was all he could muster before he was taken off for Alvaro Morata in the 86th minute.
Eventually, Osimhen’s brace was just enough to do the damage as the game ended 2-1 in Galatasaray’s favor.
The victory sealed the Lions’ place in the semifinal of the Turkish Cup, where they will play Konyaspor
