NSE President Tasks Liberian Engineers On Partnerships For Sustainable Development

President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, has highlighted strategies for advancing infrastructure and technological growth in Liberia and Africa.

This is according to a statement by the NSE made available to journalists on Monday in Lagos.

Oguntala while delivering a keynote at the 7th Annual Conference of the Engineering Society of Liberia (ESOL) on February 11, 2025 urged engineers to leverage technology and partnerships for the country’s development.

Speaking at the event which held at Paynesville City, Liberia, Oguntala, said by forging partnership and collaboration across sectors, the engineers could drive industrialization of their country and Africa.

She said the themed “Innovative Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Development in Liberia” was apt.

According to her, as Liberia aspires to achieve long-term economic and social progress, innovative engineering solutions will be fundamental in ensuring sustainable and inclusive development.

She said beyond economic gains, sustainable engineering solutions were necessary for environmental responsibility, resilience against climate change, and a higher quality of life for future generations.

Oguntala said the conference provided a platform for engineers to explore how to design and implement solutions that meet the present needs while safeguarding future resources and opportunities.

‘The future of Liberia, and indeed Africa, lies in the hands of Engineers who are committed to innovative, sustainable, and impactful solutions.

“By leveraging technology, fostering partnerships, and embracing forward-thinking policies, we can build a resilient and prosperous Liberia.

“Engineers must not only be problem-solvers but also visionary leaders who anticipate future challenges and create solutions today.

“As we look ahead, I urge Engineers, policymakers, academia, and the private sector to work collaboratively in harnessing Engineering excellence for national development.

“Let us embrace our responsibility to innovate, to lead, and to transform our societies through sustainable Engineering solutions.

Oguntala also participated in a panel discussion with the topic “The Role of Female Engineers in Driving Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Africa”.

In the panel, she explained how she championed gender inclusion in engineering.

She called for mentorship programs, policy support, and expanded opportunities for female engineers to contribute to Africa’s infrastructural transformation.

The 7th ESOL Annual Conference provided a platform for meaningful discussions on Engineering’s role in shaping Africa’s future.

NSE President’s participation reaffirmed NSE’s commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening Engineering ties between Nigeria and Liberia while driving sustainable development across the continent.
