As part of the Independent Day celebration the President, Muhammadu Buhari, has decided to recognise certain individuals with National Awards.
437 people were nominated to receive the honour as part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 62nd Independence of Nigeria. On the list included names like Burna Boy,2Baba and Teni,Afrobeat superstars who had made names for themselves in the industry.
The award giving ceremony will take place on October 11 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The award, which was divided into various categories, will see Burna Boy receiving the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic(MFR).
Grammy winning Afrobeat star,Burna Boy, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu became the first Afrobeat artist to win the prestigious award with his album,Twice as Tall. The album was released in 2021 and won the World Album Category.
His name appeared as number 53 on the list of persons to receive the national award.
2baba,Innocent Ujah Idibia, and Teni, Teniola Apata, also came 22nd and 23rd respectively on the list and will be receiving the Member of the Order of the Niger(MON) award.
The award recognises their accomplishments in the music industry and their influence they have had making Nigeria recognised all over the world through their music.
2baba has been a force to reckon with in the music industry for over two decades. He is also a pioneer of the Afrobeat and has used his music to shade light on various issues affecting the society.
Teni has also contributed her share to the Nigerian music scene since she released her debut single,Case.
Also on the list are five people slated to receive the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), 54 to receive the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) and 67 to receive the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
