Staff Unions’ Strike: LASU Rushes To Declare First Ever Christmas, New Year Break

The Lagos State University has declared Christmas and New Year break two days after staff unions declared ‘total indefinite strike’ in the Lagos State-owned higher institution.
In a statement titled, ‘Notice of Christmas And New Year Break, by the university management on Sunday, LASU said the break would start on Monday, December 9, 2024 (today) and end on January 5, 2025.
The notice directed students to vacate all hostels across the university campuses in Ojo, Ikeja, Epe and Badagry .
The statement reads partly, “The Lagos State University Senate has declared a Christmas and New Year break, commencing on Monday, 9th December 2024, and ending on Sunday, 5th January 2025.
“All university activities, including lectures and socio-academic events, will resume on Monday, 6th January 2025.
“All students residing in the university’s hostels across all campuses (Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe and Badagry) are required to vacate the hostels within 48 hours, starting from 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 9th December 2024.
“The university management appreciates the support and dedication of staff and students throughout the year and wishes everyone a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
Recall that the unions in the institution had on Friday accused the Sanwo-Olu-led administration in the state of treating workers poorly in welfare matters.
The indefinite strike started on Friday, But the management declared Yuletide break to counter the effect of the strike.
