Afrobeats, Amapiano and UK Drill: UrchMan Develops Hybrid African Sound
Music producer and recording artist Uchenna Benjamin, professionally known as UrchMan, is developing a hybrid sound that blends African rhythms with contemporary global genres.
The UK-based creative has built his musical identity around Afrobeats while incorporating influences from Amapiano, UK drill, dancehall and R&B.
His approach reflects the increasingly fluid nature of contemporary African music, where artists and producers combine traditional sounds with influences from around the world.
UrchMan began his professional career in Nigeria in 2018 and has since worked across production, songwriting, recording and artist collaborations.
His early influences came from Afrobeats, reggae, gospel and traditional African music, providing the foundation for his current production style.
Working with artists in Port Harcourt and Lagos helped further develop his understanding of the Nigerian music industry before his career expanded into the UK.
Today, his creative direction focuses on maintaining an African identity while producing music that connects with international listeners.
The result is a production philosophy built around rhythm, experimentation and cultural authenticity.
