AFCON 2023: President Tinubu honours Super Eagles stars in Abuja

Following their impressive run in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles have received national recognition from President Bola Tinubu.
Each member of the team, including players and coaching staff, has been awarded the prestigious Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) honor.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes amidst a wave of national pride surrounding the Super Eagles’ performance.
Though they ultimately fell short of lifting the trophy, the Super Eagles were widely commended for their fighting spirit and resilience throughout the tournament.
The team captured the hearts of Nigerians and other fans across the globe with their display.
Acknowledging the disappointment of the final result, the President urged Nigerians to maintain their spirit and celebrate the team’s achievements.
According to him, while the trophy may have not been won this time, he believes the Nigeria national team won a great victory in the hearts of Africa and the world by their grit, rigour, and determination in the field of play.
Despite being rocked by injuries at different times, 25 players were selected to represent Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON tournament hosted and won by Cote d’Ivoire.
