Davido’s fourth studio album, ‘Timeless’, sets new record

Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has set a new African record on the US iTunes Albums Chart with his latest album ‘Timeless’.
The album, which was released on March 31st, went on to top the chart on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, making history as the first African album to hit Number 1 in the world’s biggest music market.
Davido’s fourth studio album ‘Timeless’ featured guest appearances from Nigerian artists such as Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, DMW’s latest additions, Morravey and Logos Olori as well as Grammy-award-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, British rapper Skepta, South African music producer/DJ Musa Keys, Jamaican dancehall/reggae singer Dexta Daps, and South African rapper, Focalistic.
The 17-track album has since made waves across different music platforms with global streaming giant, Spotify announcing it the most streamed in the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Nigeria.
It also made history as the most first-day streams ever for an African album on Apple Music.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), the streaming platform’s Artiste and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa, Victor Okpala, in a statement on Tuesday, said songs by Davido featured on over 10 million user-generated playlists on Spotify.
He said Davido’s fans appeal was hardly in doubt, adding that the afrobeat star usually made music that captured elusive, exhilarating energy, and fans across the world had connected since his earliest releases.
“Data from Spotify shows that Davido is one of the Afrobeats’ biggest exports. While undoubtedly adored at home, the United States is the single largest market for Omo Baba Olowo’s music, with the vast majority of his plays coming from outside Africa.
“The United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada and France round out the top four countries where his music is streamed. Davido is one of Afrobeats’ truly global stars, and we are honoured to play our role in sharing his art and ethos with his dedicated fans in Nigeria and around the world,” Okpala said.
Okpala said the streaming platform also promoted Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album on a billboard in New York’s Times Square, noting that his new release had been celebrated by fans and artists alike, with many appreciating Davido’s ability to find cohesion within a body of work that played host to diverse collaborators.
