The police on Wednesday arraigned one Ebenezer Opara before a Chief Magistratesโ€™ Court in Wuse, Abuja, over an alleged N15 million land scam.

Opara is facing two counts of criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Udo Okokon, told the court that the defendant and another person now at large allegedly committed the offences in December 2024 within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mr Okokon said Opara allegedly obtained N15 million from the complainant, Mr Edeh Gabriel, under the pretext of selling him a plot of land in the FCT.

According to the prosecutor, the money was paid into the defendantโ€™s company account, but the land was never sold, and the funds were not refunded.

He added that the defendant made representations he knew to be false at the time of collecting the money.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 312 and 79 of the Penal Code.

Opara, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million, with one reliable surety who must reside within the courtโ€™s jurisdiction.

The magistrate ordered the surety to present appointment and confirmation letters and adjourned the case until March 5 for hearing. (NAN)
