Mass Transit: Federal Government Purchases 70 CNG-Powered Buses From Local Manufacturer
The Federal Government has officially received 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s transportation sector. The Nigerian automobile manufacturer disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
These buses, which run on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), are designed to provide Nigerians with affordable and comfortable transportation options.
The handover ceremony took place at Jet Motor Company’s plant in Ajah, Lagos State, with key officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas in attendance.
Dimas Hamidu, the Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, praised the quality of the vehicles and commended Jet Motor Company for its efforts. He highlighted that these hybrid buses demonstrate President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to mitigating the effects of the recent fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
Hamidu further noted that these vehicles would significantly address the transportation needs of the citizens and help cushion the economic impact of rising costs.
The hybrid vehicles feature two CNG tanks with a combined capacity of 220 liters, capable of covering 300 kilometers, and a petrol tank with a capacity of 80 liters. The CNG tanks have a lifespan of 15 years, and the engine seamlessly switches between gas and petrol.
The Managing Director of Jet Motor Company, Derek Ewelukwa, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the country’s transportation solutions. He assured that more buses would soon be delivered to further support the government’s transportation initiatives.
