War Against Boko Haram: COAS Yahaya Reveals Secret Behind Army’s Success

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has revealed that the improved welfare of officers and men of the Nigerian Army was the turning point in the fight against Boko Haram, bandits, and other terror groups.
The Army Chief spoke today at the opening of the Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Conference at the Command Officerโs Mess, Abuja.
Lt Gen Yahaya said the Army under his command has continued to evolve novel and better administrative measures to improve troopsโ welfare.
He said the introduction of certain measures and incentives has helped to boost the commitment if the troops.

“In this respect, the Nigerian Army Personnel Insurance Scheme (NAPIS) โ which is akin to the Group Life Assurance Scheme โ to further cater for troopsโ dependants in any eventuality has just commenced,” he said.
โThe Policy which covers payment of medical bills, compensation for temporal or permanent disability as well as death is paid wholly by the Army and is therefore devoid of problems and issues associated with the previous schemes.
โOur NAPIS payment is guaranteed in the event of any eventuality and the Scheme had taken off effective since 1 Feb 23.
โWe have also introduced the COAS Welfare Loan Scheme for the benefit of interested officers and soldiers. This is a scheme where interested officers and soldiers are granted interest-free soft loans.
โSimilar schemes are afoot to facilitate interested soldiers own houses on specially arranged affordable mortgages. I believe those schemes and many more to come will further contribute to enhancing our overall welfare packages for the Nigerian Army personnel”.
