The managerial shake-up sweeping through British football has spread beyond England, with Scottish Premiership giants Celtic confirming the dismissal of head coach Wilfried Nancy.

The decision underlines the growing “sack fever” across top-flight leagues in the United Kingdom as clubs act swiftly amid mounting pressure for results and internal stability.

In a brief statement issued on Tuesday, Celtic announced that Nancy’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

“Celtic Football Club today announces that it has decided to terminate the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy, with immediate effect,” the club said. “The Club thanks Wilfried for his efforts and wishes him and his family well for the future.”The club also confirmed the exit of Nancy’s backroom staff, including assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier, while Head of Football Operations Paul Tisdale has also left his role.

Celtic said a further update would be provided to supporters in due course.Nancy’s departure comes against the backdrop of an increasingly ruthless season for managers across Britain.

In the English Premier League, Manchester United also announced the sack of Ruben Amorim on Monday following a turbulent spell marked by poor results and public disagreements with the club hierarchy. Amorim became the second Premier League managerial casualty of the new year after Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, despite the Italian leading the club to silverware in his first season.

Those exits have highlighted the intense scrutiny facing coaches, even at clubs competing near the top end of the table.

The trend has now crossed the border into Scotland, where expectations remain high at Celtic, a club accustomed to domestic dominance and regular European participation.

Celtic’s squad includes Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho, whose presence has continued the club’s strong links with African football.
