Gunmen demand for N70 million to secure release of two MAPOLY students,ex-UI DVC
Police officer gets shot as gunmen abduct three persons and demand N70 million ransom
Two students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, were kidnapped on Friday night along with a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Adigun Agbaje.
It was gathered that during the abduction, which happened near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, a police officer was killed before the gunmen made off with their victims.
One of the MAPOLY students, identified as Miss Oluwatobi Orekoya, is said to be a final year student of Business Administration.
Further information reaching the public is that the kidnappers have contacted the families of the victims, demanding N50 million for the release of Professor Agbaje, while the parents of each of the students are being asked to pay N10 million ransom.
Professor Agbaje,was said to be on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, and was returning to Ibadan around 6 pm when he was ambushed.
Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation, the MAPOLY’s spokesman, Mr. Yemi Ajibola said, “I was informed of the incident by the school Students’ Union President, Damilola Ajani.”
Ajibola added that the institution’s management was not faltering as they had already taken necessary steps and gotten in touch with relevant authorities to ensure their safety.
On his part Chairman of National Association of Nigerian Student(NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Simeon Damilola Kehinde made it known that the apex students body in the state is doing everything humanly possible to ensure the release of the students.
The President of MAPOLY Student Union Government, Damilola Ajani, while confirming the incident, is appealing to the public for financial assistance and prayers towards the release of the abducted students.
