Paris Saint-Germain became the first French club to reach three UEFA Champions League finals after a 1-1 draw against FC Bayern Munich on Tuesday night secured a 6-5 aggregate victory for the defending champions.

The result sends Luis Enrique’s side into another Champions League final, where they will face Arsenal FC in Budapest on 30 May.

Before the match, PSG manager Luis Enrique compared the rivalry between the two clubs to the famous tennis battles between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, saying both sides consistently bring out the best in each other.

PSG arrived in Munich with a narrow first-leg advantage and wasted little time extending it. The breakthrough came in the third minute through Ousmane Dembélé.

The move started with a precise pass from Fabian Ruiz that split Bayern’s defence before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia calmly set up Dembele, who fired a first-time finish into the roof of the net.

The goal was Dembele’s third in consecutive Champions League appearances and the third-earliest strike ever scored in a Champions League semi-final.

Bayern responded with urgency as wingers Luis Díaz and Michael Olise both went close, but their efforts failed to trouble the scoreboard.

The German champions also appealed for a penalty after Vitinha’s attempted clearance appeared to strike João Neves’ arm inside the area, but the referee waved play on, leaving Bayern manager Vincent Kompany visibly frustrated on the touchline.

PSG almost doubled their lead shortly after when Neves forced Manuel Neuer into an excellent save from a header following a Vitinha free-kick.

At the other end, PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov produced a brilliant stop to deny Jamal Musiala before half-time.

Bayern continued to push in the second half and eventually found hope through Harry Kane, whose late strike levelled the match at 1-1 on the night.

However, PSG held firm in the closing minutes to secure their place in the final and keep alive hopes of retaining the European crown they won last season.

For Arsenal, the final represents a chance to win their first Champions League title, while PSG are aiming to further cement their growing dominance in European football.
