The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has dismissed reports alleging a plot to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing them as misleading and aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the National Assembly.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Mr Bamidele said no discussions or plans had taken place among senators regarding any move against Mr Akpabio.
“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office,” Mr Bamidele said.
He stressed that the Senate remained united and focused on national issues, rather than being distracted by rumours.
“We are fully united and have zero tolerance for distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance that need our attention. Reports like these are clearly meant to create confusion,” he added.

Mr Bamidele’s remarks followed recent comments by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), who had referenced previous unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.
Reaffirming the Senate’s cohesion, the Majority Leader noted that there was no intention within the chamber to consider the removal of any member of its leadership, insisting that lawmakers were collectively committed to their legislative responsibilities.
