President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Lagos State has set a new benchmark in infrastructure delivery, following the inauguration of key projects, including the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge and a multi-storey administrative complex in Alausa. The projects were commissioned on Wednesday during the president’s two-day official visit to Lagos.

Mr Tinubu, who governed the state between 1999 and 2007, was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, a 5.04-kilometre corridor designed to ease traffic within the Ikeja–Maryland–Ojota axis, was originally conceived during Mr Tinubu’s administration in 2002 and completed under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.Other projects unveiled include the five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building and the Lagos Multi-Agency Building, both located within the state secretariat in Alausa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tinubu said the projects reflected a governance approach that prioritises citizens’ wellbeing and economic productivity.“The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is more than an infrastructure; it is a bridge to opportunities. In a busy city like Lagos, vehicular movement is more than just commuting; it is associated with the city’s economic wellbeing. When traffic flows, productivity improves. When time is saved, businesses grow. When access is made easier, living standards get improved,” he said.

He added that the projects demonstrate that Lagos has continued to respond effectively to its urban challenges.“This is an achievement that speaks to the importance of making the well-being of the people the centre of development. Lagos Government has continued to show that it understands that development must be seen, felt and must be experienced by the citizens. The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge project being inaugurated today sends a clear message that the Government of Lagos State has not been overwhelmed by the mobility challenges facing the State,” he said. The president also commended the decision to name the newly completed administrative complex after him, describing it as an honour he accepted with humility.

He noted that the LAGIS building represents a shift towards technology-driven land administration.“The LAGIS Building represented the future of an effective and transparent land administration system,” he said, stressing that the use of data and digital tools is critical to planning and unlocking economic value.

Mr Tinubu said the projects align with his administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aimed at building a modern, digitally enabled and economically resilient Nigeria. He added that the quality of the projects sets a standard for other states.Governor Sanwo-Olu said the projects were designed to address key governance challenges, particularly traffic congestion, land administration and public service efficiency.

“We have built, not just for today’s needs, but with a clear eye on the ever-expanding demands of the future,” the governor said.He explained that the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge incorporates modern features, including walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered street lighting and drainage systems to tackle flooding along the Odo-Iya-Alaro corridor.

On land administration, Mr Sanwo-Olu said the LAGIS building marks a transition from manual processes to a more efficient digital system.

“At its most fundamental, is the elimination of legacy paper-based bottlenecks in land administration; the strengthening of property rights; the unlocking of previously underutilised capital; and a direct and material improvement in our Ease of Doing Business,” he said.

He added that the Multi-Agency Building would improve coordination among government institutions and enhance service delivery.

“By bringing multiple agencies into a single, well-designed environment, we are enabling the integration and responsiveness of public service delivery in Lagos,” he said.

The governor said the administrative complex, now named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, recognises the president’s contributions to institutional development in Lagos.Located within the state secretariat, the complex sits on about 2.01 hectares and features four interconnected blocks, conference facilities, parking space for over 300 vehicles, and integrated safety and utility systems.Senior government officials, lawmakers, party leaders and local government chairpersons attended the event.
