President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, resulting in the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new officials to key economic and housing portfolios.

The decision, announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was conveyed through a memo signed by the SGF, George Akume.

According to the memo, Mr Wale Edun has been relieved of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, is also to leave the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Mr Edun has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Until his appointment, Mr Oyedele served as Minister of State in the same ministry.

In the housing sector, the President nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as minister designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Mr Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending further processes.

The memo directed that all handing over procedures be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23 April 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Mr Akume said the reshuffle was aimed at improving governance outcomes.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the changes.

According to him, the approval was in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the President to appoint and assign responsibilities to ministers.

Mr Akume also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the country.

He noted that the administration would continue to review its composition in pursuit of improved performance.

“The process of reinvigoration shall be continuous,” he said.

The latest development marks one of the few cabinet adjustments since Mr Tinubu assumed office, with the changes expected to have implications for the administration’s economic management and housing delivery strategies.
