TRENDING: Lookman shines with two goals against Napoli

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman continued his impressive form on Sunday, scoring two goals that ended Napoli’s unbeaten run in the Italian Serie A.
This achievement comes just days after he finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, solidifying his position among the world’s top players.
Lookman’s performance against Napoli was exceptional, with 21 passes in the final third, six touches in the opponent’s box, and four crosses.
He also won four duels, created three chances, and had three shots, with two shots on target resulting in two goals.
This latest performance has seen Lookman emerge as the Serie A player with the most direct goal involvement in 2024, with 27 goals in all competitions.
He now has six goals and four assists in just eight Serie A appearances this season.
Ballon d’Or for Nigerians
Lookman’s success is not an isolated incident, especially his recent Ballon d’Or nomination which he eventually finished 14th overall.
A handful of Nigerian players have made their mark on the Ballon d’Or awards, with eight players receiving nominations since the award’s inception in 1956.
Some of the notable Nigerian players who have achieved this great success include Victor Osimhen (the highest ranked Nigerian player in Ballon d’Or history in eighth position), Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Nwankwo Kanu and Sunday Oliseh, among others
In the women’s category, Asisat Oshoala was nominated for the 2023 women’s Ballon d’Or, showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport.
