The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) assured members of the public that all important documents and records in its National Office at Yaba, Lagos are still intact after a fire was spotted in the building in the early hours of oWednesday morning.
A statement by the Head, Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina, commended the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other emergency responders for their prompt response to the situation and assured the public that no life was lost in the fire.
This was to debunk videos making the rounds with unconfirmed reports suggesting that staffers were trapped in the building.
According to Adesina,”WAEC wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos.
“It was swiftly contained by a combined team of firefighters.
“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact.”
WAEC had on Thursday officially launched a platform for digital certificates but this has been followed by mixed reactions.
While some users of the platform commended the examination body for the innovation, many others have accused it of rip off.
But WAEC said all the identified issues were being looked into for resolutions.
