Janine Anthony charts new course with Snap Inc. after FIFA Club World Cup milestone
Nigerian ace broadcaster and media strategist Janine Anthony is charting a new course, joining Snap Inc. as a Consultant to lead Creator Partnerships and Content Strategy in Africa.
The move comes on the heels of her landmark role as the only Nigerian-born matchday reporter at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup for DAZN, where she reported pitchside alongside football legends including Lionel Messi, Sir David Beckham, Luis Enrique, and Claudio Makรฉlรฉlรฉ, further solidifying her reputation as one of Africaโs foremost voices in global sports media. In a LinkedIn post, Anthony shared her excitement for the new role: โAfter my time scaling the creator and content ecosystem at TikTok as a Partnerships Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa, I’m thrilled to bring that experience to Snapchat in shaping their strategic investment in this key growth region. Empowering African storytellers on the global stage will always have my heart, therefore, the opportunity to shape conversations and build movements from the ground up in one of the most dynamic markets in the world means I’d jump right in!โ
Anthonyโs pivot to Snap Inc. highlights a career that has consistently fused sports, media, and digital innovation, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for African talent.
At TikTok, Janine Anthony led the Gaming on TikTok campaign across Sub-Saharan Africa, delivering a holistic programme that combined both in-app and out-of-app engagement to elevate Gaming as a viable creative and commercial vertical. She facilitated the LevelUp Africa workshops, creating additional pathways for gamers to gain visibility, build skills, and monetise their passion.
Further underscoring her impact, she brokered the African Games partnership for TikTok โ the platformโs first multi-story event partnership on the continent and the African Gamesโ first collaboration with a social media and entertainment platform โ marking a milestone in the convergence of culture, sport, and digital storytelling in Africa.
Her broadcasting journey, however, began long before her digital ventures. In 2019, Anthony made history as the first African woman to lead football commentary at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, while working for the BBC.
She followed this with a pioneering role in 2021, helping CAF and FIFA establish the first all-female commentary team at the Womenโs Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. These milestones not only marked personal achievements but also advanced the representation of African women in global sports media.
Anthony has also built an impressive portfolio with Sky Sports and the Premier League, interviewing top football figures including Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and earning praise from legends like Ian Wright. Her pitchside reporting at the FIFA Club World Cup for DAZN provided African audiences with exclusive access to some of footballโs biggest stars, reinforcing her reputation for insight, credibility, and storytelling.
Beyond the booth, Anthony has championed gender equity in sports finance. As Head of PR and Communications at PawaTech, the parent company of betPawa, she implemented the Locker Room Bonus, a mobile money initiative guaranteeing instant rewards for both male and female playersโa rare and impactful move in a sector long criticized for pay disparities.
Her early work in elevating African womenโs football narratives set the stage for her ongoing advocacy. Anthony founded LadiesMarch, a Pan-African digital network for womenโs football, and produced the FIFA+ documentary series All Roads Lead Down Under for the 2023 Womenโs World Cup, bringing attention to stories often overlooked by mainstream sports media.
Her impact has earned continental recognition. Anthony was named among Africaโs 50 Most Influential Women in Sports for 2025 by the Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG), joining luminaries such as former FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura and NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi.
She was honoured in the Business and Marketing category for her work at the intersection of media, technology, and commerce.
