President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria met privately with Rwandan President Paul Kagame over lunch in Paris, France, on Sunday, January 4, 2026, according to a post shared by the Nigerian leader on social media.

In the brief message, Tinubu said he and Kagame discussed โ€œthe current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape.โ€

The informal encounter in the French capital was described by both sides as a conversation on global developments and Africaโ€™s position in the evolving international environment.

The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic engagement between African heads of state at a time marked by shifting geopolitical dynamics and increasing emphasis on Africaโ€™s collective voice on the world stage. Official sources noted the lunch took place as Tinubu continues engagements in Europe ahead of other scheduled trips, with the Nigerian presidency confirming the interaction through photographs and statements released on social media. Although neither side released a detailed agenda from the lunch, the exchange reflects longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Rwanda, both of which are active participants in continental frameworks such as the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The private meeting follows previous high-level discussions between the two leaders at international forums, where issues of economic cooperation, security and regional integration have previously featured.
