Sanwo-Olu endorses Hamzat, deputy governor pledges continuity in Lagos
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed gratitude following what he described as an endorsement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, signalling growing political alignment within the state’s leadership.
Mr Hamzat, in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, said the governor’s support represents a significant vote of confidence in their joint stewardship of Lagos State.
“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” Mr Hamzat said.“His trust means a great deal to me. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly.”
While details of the endorsement were not immediately clarified, the development is expected to fuel political conversations ahead of future electoral cycles in the state, where succession planning and continuity have increasingly come into focus.
Mr Hamzat has served as deputy governor since 2019, working closely with Mr Sanwo-Olu on key policy areas including infrastructure development, digital innovation and public service reforms.

Both leaders are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and have maintained a largely stable working relationship throughout their tenure. In his remarks, the deputy governor reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the administration’s development agenda and delivering on its promises to residents.
“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” he added.
Political observers say the statement may signal early positioning within Lagos’ evolving political landscape, particularly as conversations around leadership transition beyond the current administration begin to gather pace
With the Lagos State Governor also issuing an official statement on his endorsement, analysts note that green lights from sitting governors often carry significant weight within party structures, especially in states like Lagos where political influence and continuity have historically shaped leadership outcomes
